EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT – February 2024
In our Employee Spotlight, this month is Marlow Butler, COTA. Marlow works for Legacy Therapy and is a mainstay in our community. He is originally from Jackson, Mississippi, and is the oldest of 3 siblings. Marlow remembers his Mom wanted to go to college in Tuskegee to be an occupational therapist, but she gave up her dream to let Marlow finish high school. Marlow went on to Tougaloo College and got his Bachelor of Arts degree in 2001, followed by his Master’s Degree in Fine Arts in 2006 from Mississippi College. Then he taught Middle School art for 8 years and worked for a non-profit for another 7 years.
When Marlow got married in 2013, he moved to Atlanta and worked for United Way as a Compliance Officer making sure that non-profits were using the money donated to them by United Way correctly. Marlow and his wife have a 7-year-old daughter who attends nearby King Springs Elementary. Marlow’s niece tore her ACL while playing soccer and Marlow helped her rehab. It was then that Marlow’s mother and his wife suggested he become a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant. Marlow says he feels he’s paying his mother back for giving up her dream to be a therapist. He graduated from St. Catherine University in 2021 with his COTA degree.
Marlow is known for his patience and willingness to help everyone. He says, “I always wanted to help people. I love the residents and the family-oriented culture here at Woodland Ridge. The staff is like family too.”
We are so happy Marlow is part of our team. Our residents love his upbeat attitude!
