EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT – July 2023
Our employee spotlight shines on Michelle Hawkins. Michelle is originally from Richmond, Virginia. She’s the baby of the family and has 2 brothers and 2 sisters that she remembers playing games with as kids. They even turned their chores into games, writing the chores on pieces of paper and then drawing to see who did which chore. The family moved to Newport News, Virginia near the shipyard and Michelle remembers helping her Dad who was a mechanic. Her Dad also had pigeons and Michelle helped gather the eggs. The family took trips to New York to visit extended family and Michelle went to school in New York for a while. She remembers the other New York kids being mean to her, but has fond memories of playing Monopoly and Scrabble with her family.
Michelle went to school at Richmond Health and Technology, becoming a cosmetologist for 10 years. She also studied computers and worked at Virginia State University as a computer lab assistant coordinator. She was a computer specialist for 5 years and also has a degree in this field. Michelle got married and had 3 children, a son who is 31, a daughter who is 30, and another daughter who is 22 as well as a 7 year old grandson and another grandson who is due in September. She says she was a dedicated wife for 20 years and moved to Atlanta 16 years ago.
Michelle became a caregiver 10 years ago, first working for Visiting Angels and then for Robin’s Nest, as an adult daycare coordinator. She was the director at Robin’s Nest and had to do all the jobs involved in caring for her clients. Michelle has her own cleaning business and works with Coffee AM building web pages and as an administrative assistant. In her spare time, Michelle likes to read, cook and decorate. She also loves walking and is devoted to her children and God.
Michelle has worked at Woodland Ridge for 4 years and says, “I love my profession. I love being able to help the elderly. It’s a joy to be able to work and have fun with our residents. They have such good stories and I am helping them through their journey in life.”
You will recognize Michelle by her bubbly personality and genuine care for others. She’s become our new Activity Director for our Memory Care neighborhood and is an integral part of our team at Woodland Ridge!
