Resident Spotlight – January 2024
Our Resident Spotlight shines on Debbie Horton for January 2024. Ms. Debbie was born in Chicago but grew up in Charleston, West Virginia with her younger brother. Ms. Debbie enjoyed history and English and was also a high school cheerleader. Her first job was working in the library and she went to college at West Virginia University, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. However, she ended up working as an administrative assistant for the owners and principals of architectural companies in Chicago, Illinois, Wilmington, North Carolina, and Atlanta, Georgia.
Ms. Debbie married Jim Horton and they had 2 children, Ben and Katie whom she is immensely proud of, as well as 3 grandchildren, ages 9, 6, and 4. She is an avid dog lover and would dog sit for her children’s pups. At Christmas time, Ms. Debbie enjoys watching Hallmark movies and baking all the favorite treats of her family members, everything from fudge, cheesecake, and candied nuts to cheese crackers. Her coworkers were always treated to their favorites too from Ms. Debbie’s candy jar.
Some of Ms. Debbie’s favorite things to do are reading Tom Clancy crime thrillers or Reader’s Digest, baking, watching the Atlanta Braves on TV, walking outdoors, listening to music, and playing with her grandkids or the dogs. A favorite place to go is to the beach in Destin, Florida. Often Ms. Debbie’s kids, Mom and sometimes even her mother’s sisters would go to the beach too. To Debbie, walking the beach and having a margarita in the afternoon was the best thing! The family enjoyed cooking, shopping, and just enjoying being together. Ms. Debbie has also traveled to Europe and Canada with her family.
Ms. Debbie has been a member of Heritage Presbyterian Church in Woodstock for many years and also worked most of those years in the food pantry. Her kindness toward others and willingness to help has always been a part of Ms. Debbie’s life.
Ms. Debbie loves to watch the Atlanta Braves and attends games regularly. She’s been a UGA Bulldogs fan since her daughter went to college there. Here at Woodland Ridge, Ms. Debbie loves the daily pet visits, music, scenic rides, crafts, and most other activities. Her sweet attitude and helpfulness towards others make her everyone’s friend.
We are so glad Ms. Debbie chose to call Woodland Ridge her home.
