Employee Spotlight – July 2024
In our Employee Spotlight for July is Mery Deras, housekeeping and maintenance. Mery is originally from Honduras and grew up as the oldest with 3 brothers and 4 sisters. She remembers always working to help take care of her brothers and sisters.
Mery’s first job after finishing school was sewing in a clothing factory. She did this job for 6 years. Then in 1998, Mery came to the United States. Next, she worked painting houses for a year, followed by working for a company that made tortillas for 2 years. After that Mery says there were several different jobs, such as working for a printing company and working for a furniture company. As you can see, Mery can do just about anything!
For fun, Mery loves to travel, especially back home to Honduras to see her many family members still living there. Mery has two children, a son, who is in college to become an electrician and currently working as an apprentice electrician and a daughter, who is in high school and works part time at a flower shop.
Since coming to Woodland Ridge 2 years ago, Mery has been helping Oscar and Juana with maintenance and housekeeping duties. Mery is who we turn to for painting rooms and cleaning carpets. She says, “I like being around the residents, helping them and talking to them. I enjoy my work.”
We love having Mery as part of our team, both for her many skills and her happy smile and attitude.
