Our Woodland Ridge resident of the month is Gloria! Ms. Gloria was born in Birmingham, Alabama on December 21, 1940. She is the younger sister of two protective older brothers who are eight and ten years older than her.
Gloria in 1943 in BirminghamWhen Gloria was young, her family moved to Marietta, Georgia so that her father could work for Bell Bomber Plant to help produce bomber aircrafts for the war effort. They lived at Marietta Place, a development built for factory workers just down the hill from the plant.
By the time Ms. Gloria was a teenager, her family had moved to Smryna where she went to Campbell High School and played clarinet in the marching band!
Gloria at Lockheed in the 1960’sAfter high school, Ms. Gloria took a secretarial course at Greenleaf School of Business in downtown Atlanta and worked for a couple of different companies downtown before getting hired as a stenographer at Lockheed, where she met her husband Bud. During her time at Lockheed, she worked as a stenographer for engineers, including some who were working on the then-classified F-22 Raptor fighter jet project.
Gloria also enjoyed traveling around the world. Shortly after marrying, she and Bud went to Germany where her brother and sister-in-law were stationed and they spent several weeks traveling around Europe together. Gloria also lived in Colorado Springs for a few years.
