Our resident of the month for December is Ms. Helen. She is originally from Midland, Texas growing up in a family with 2 brothers and 2 sisters. The three girls were close in age and remain close as adults. Ms. Helen was outgoing and popular in high school, playing flute and piccolo in the band as well as being the Drum Majorette who twirled batons as part of their routine. She was a cheerleader the first 2 years of high school and participated in dance competitions and talent shows. Music was a big part of her life, but she managed to also serve in student government and on planning committees for homecoming and prom.
Ms. Helen has been active in her church from early childhood, singing in the choir and going to Sunday School. She eventually taught Sunday School when she became an adult and was on the Missionary Board at St. John Missionary Baptist Church along with her mother and sister.
Ms. Helen has both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Sociology from California State University – Bakersfield and worked for Kern County Human Services Department. Among her hobbies are computer games, sewing and traveling. She’s been to the Bahamas, Hawaii and many places in the United States. Ms. Helen has two sons and one daughter as well as 6 grandchildren. Ms. Helen loves to walk and before Covid you could often see Ms. Helen and her son walking outdoors.
Here at Woodland Ridge, Helen loves the music activities and the dance or movement activities. Woodland Ridge is fortunate to have Ms. Helen be a part of our family!
