Resident Spotlight – January 2025
Our Resident Spotlight shines on Charles, “Charlie” King for the month of January. Charlie is originally from Americus, Georgia, and grew up with an older sister. He says he grew up knowing his future wife, Patty, but they didn’t get together until he was in the Navy and they dated long distance at the start. After they married, Charlie was stationed in San Diego and Subic Bay in the Philippines. Patty went with him to San Diego and they lived in Chula Vista, a suburb of San Diego. Charlie went to Auburn University, graduating with a Bachelor’s in Business degree. He went back to the Navy and was stationed in a boat support unit in Vietnam. Next, he went back to the University of Georgia and graduated with a second degree in Accounting.
Charlie says he hated accounting and decided he wanted to do something where he could be his own boss. That’s when he went into Commercial Real Estate, starting his first company in 1973, and later, in 1980 he opened King Industrial Real Estate, where he still works as a consultant today. By running his own company, Charlie says he could get someone else to do the jobs he didn’t like. In 2001, Charlie was named Atlanta Realtor of the Year. He belongs to several professional organizations and is a founding member of CORFAC, which is an international organization of commercial realtors.
During this time, Charlie and Patty raised their daughter, who has also given them 2 granddaughters. They have 3 great-grandchildren too. The family goes to Peachtree Road United Methodist church and Charlie and Patty belong to the Blazer Club Sunday School class for 50 years. Other memberships include the Atlanta Rotary Club and Ansley Golf Club where Charlie loved to play tennis.
Charlie loves to backpack and has hiked most of the Appalachian Trail. He has also boated the intercoastal waterway from Jacksonville, Florida to New York. His big passion has been biking. Charlie took 7 weeks to ride his bike from San Diego, California to Brunswick, Georgia. After that, he organized and led bike tours through Europe for 18 years. His favorite ride was from Southern England to Northern Scotland and then on to Norway, biking about 2000 miles. When he wasn’t on a bike or boat, Charlie loved to take his motorhome throughout the USA.
Here at Woodland Ridge, Charlie enjoys the pet visits, parties, and being able to visit his wife as often as he wants. We’re so glad he decided to call Woodland Ridge his new home.
