Resident Spotlight – March 2025
Our Resident Spotlight shines on Gloria Trotman for the month of March 2025. Ms. Gloria is originally from New Rochelle, a town in Westchester County, just North of New York City. She was the fifth child in a family of eight, with four sisters and three brothers. Sadly, her mother died suddenly when Ms. Gloria was only 12 years old, but her father became the caregiver and supporter who kept the family close. They moved to the Bronx and lived there for many years.

Ms. Gloria went to public schools in New York City and graduated from Evander Childs High School, the largest school at the time. After high school, Ms. Gloria went on to take a commercial course which prepared her for office work.
As a volunteer at the famous Stage Door Canteen, Ms. Gloria met her future husband, a young sailor. She followed her sailor to California where they got married, but they returned to the Bronx to have their first daughter. They went on to have three daughters, Pamela, Deborah and Candace as well as 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Ms. Gloria is proud of her entire family.
Over the years, Ms. Gloria’s love of traveling has taken her to China, Russia, South Africa, Brazil and Paraguay as well as several European countries and the Caribbean Islands. One of her favorite trips was with her youngest grandson, Elijah to the Southwest, visiting a Native American community.
Another hobby is reading and being a member of 2 book clubs. She loves to play Bridge and is an accomplished seamstress, making clothing for her daughters and herself. Knitting, crocheting and making doll clothes are also some of her skills. Ms. Gloria enjoyed growing her own collard greens, corn and other vegetables. Cheering on the University of Connecticut women’s basketball team, The Huskies, is a favorite too.
