Resident Spotlight – November 2024
Our Resident Spotlight shines on Sandra “Gail” Cox for November 2024. Ms. Gail was born in Alabama, but her family moved to Rome. Georgia when she was a child. She grew up with one sister, Ann. She remembers that the family knew Eddie Arnold before he got famous and he would come to their house and sing. She also remembers staying with her Aunt in Savannah, Georgia for about 6 months when she was growing up.
After high school, Ms. Gail got married to the boy next door, Charles Cox. The Cox family moved in when Charles was already grown and as Ms. Gail says, “He wouldn’t leave me alone.” She jokes that, “He chased me until I caught him!” Ms. Gail and Charles have 7 children, 2 boys and 5 girls, as well as 15 grandchildren.
Ms. Gail and Charles moved to Miami for about 3 years, but she says they moved back to Smyrna, Georgia because she wanted to raise their children here. Charles worked for Bristol Meyers and when Ms. Gail helped out by working as a bartender for many years. For fun, she says they played baseball and volleyball and Ms. Gail also loves to collect dolls and do flower arranging. They also belonged to the American Legion since Charles had been in the Air Force. She says they loved to go to the American Legion’s activities.
