It’s pretty obvious that everyone is different; you can’t take what one person does and apply it to every other individual. This goes for just about every type of elder care imaginable, including assisted living. While assisted living may very well be one of the best elder care options an aging senior can consider, it isn’t for everyone. However, the vast majority of elderly men and women who move into assisted living ultimately love the experience. Many of them note they couldn’t imagine anything better at that stage in their life.
Now, for those who have no prior experience with assisted living — they have never visited one, had a friend or family member in one, and have absolutely no idea what they offer — it can be a bit disconcerting and overwhelming to think about it for yourself.
Remember, though, when you have full autonomy and independence in your life (which you do at a quality assisted living facility), you can do whatever pleases you, so long as it is legal and within the rules and regulations of the facility itself.
So, let’s look at what an average day at assisted living might look like.
Your early mornings.
If you are an early riser, you might wake up at 6:30 am. Perhaps 7:30 is more your pace. You can wake up nice and leisurely and spend time in your private apartment style room. If you have a roommate, they may have already been up for a while or are still sleeping. How you deal with your wake up time would then simply be between you and your roommate.
If you require medications and staff is going to assist you with that, you can wait until they arrive. Staff at a good, quality assisted living facility will bring your medication to you at essentially the same time each day.
Then you can head down to the restaurant style facility for a wonderful, nutritious breakfast. You can sit with friends or by yourself; the choice is yours.
Afterward, you can stroll the grounds, grab a nice book to read in an atrium or comfortable lounge chair, or go to a fitness class. Maybe you always wanted to pursue art and there is an art workshop taking place that morning.
The choice is always yours.
Your afternoons.
If you like three square meals a day, lunchtime will be served. If you prefer to skip this meal, you can participate in certain activities that might encourage mental strategic thinking, play games with friends, or simply relax with that great book you had in your hand earlier that morning.
You could spend time with good friends, play games, talk, or even enjoy a visit from an adult child, grandchild, other family member or friend.
Your evenings.
Grab a nice, hearty meal from the restaurant style facility, choosing precisely what you enjoy for your evening entree.
Later on, there might be a good classic movie showing, or something newer, action-packed or a romance.
When your full day is complete, it’s time to wind down. You can take a shower back in your apartment, if you need help then staff can offer assistance, and then you can climb into bed and relax, reflecting for another great day.
This is just a small, brief snippet of what a day might look like at assisted living.
