Our Employee Spotlight for October is Mery Deras, who works in housekeeping and maintenance. Mery is originally from Honduras. She grew up as the oldest of eight children, with three brothers and four sisters. She remembers always working hard to help take care of her younger siblings.
Mery’s first job after finishing school was sewing in a clothing factory, where she worked for six years. In 1998, Mery came to the United States. She then spent a year painting houses, followed by two years working for a company that made tortillas. After that, Mery held several different jobs, including working for a printing company and a furniture company. As you can see, Mery can do just about anything!
For fun, Mery loves to travel, especially back home to Honduras, where she enjoys visiting the many family members who still live there.
Mery has two children, and she is very proud of both. Her son is in his third year of college studying to become an electrician and is currently working as an apprentice electrician. Her daughter is in 12th grade, will graduate this school year, and works part-time at a flower shop.
Since joining the Woodland Ridge team three years ago, Mery has been helping Oscar and Juana with maintenance and housekeeping duties. Mery is the person we turn to for painting rooms and cleaning carpets.
When asked about her work, Mery says, “I like being around the residents, helping them and talking to them. I enjoy my work.” We love having Mery as part of our team not only because of her many skills, but also because of her happy smile and wonderful attitude. We are so grateful for all that Mery does for Woodland Ridge!
