This month’s Employee Spotlight shines on Laquite Porter, better known as Q!
Laquite Porter was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, and is the oldest of three siblings, with one brother and one sister. Growing up, Q shared a close bond with her family. As the oldest sibling, she naturally looked out for her younger brother and sister and enjoyed spending time with them. She was especially close to her mother, who was a talented chef and one of the biggest influences in her life. Although her mother has passed away, Q continues to cherish the lessons, love, and passion for cooking she passed on to her. She carries her mother’s memory with her every day and is grateful for the values and strength her mother instilled in her.
As a teenager, Q enjoyed spending time with her friends. One of her favorite pastimes was going skating at Cascade Skating Rink on Campbellton Road with five of her close friends. Those fun-filled days created lasting memories and remain some of her favorite childhood experiences. Q graduated with honors from Alonzo A. Crim High School, earning a HOPE Scholarship. She continued her education at Atlanta Technical College, where she earned six certificates and is continuing to work toward completing her degree.
Her first job was at Church’s Chicken when she was just 16 years old. She later worked at Applebee’s, where she started as a server and eventually became a bartender. Q then spent four years with Fifth Group Restaurants after her uncle encouraged her to apply there. It was during this time that she discovered her passion for cooking. Her dedication and hard work earned her the honor of Employee of the Month.
Q has been a valued member of the Woodland Ridge team for 11 months, working as a cook. What she enjoys most about her job is preparing delicious meals for the residents and bringing smiles to their faces. She also appreciates the peaceful and welcoming environment at Woodland Ridge. One of Q’s greatest accomplishments is her personal and professional growth. Transitioning from the fast-paced restaurant industry to working in an Assisted Living community has been a rewarding experience, and she truly enjoys serving our residents every day.
