This month, we are proud to shine the spotlight on Mr. George Dugoniths! George was born in North Carolina. When his father, who served in the Marine Corps, left to go to war, George went to live with his grandmother on Long Island, New York. As an only child, he spent the next 12 years with his grandmother, who lovingly helped raise him. He attended East Islip High School and has many cherished memories of growing up, especially running around with his grandmother, catching chickens.
George owned and operated a trophy business where he created custom awards for fire departments, police departments, and local businesses. He took great pride in his work and enjoyed recognizing the achievements of others through his craftsmanship. Family has always been the center of George’s life. He is incredibly proud of his only daughter, Laurie, and speaks with great admiration about her accomplishments and the loving care she provides for him.
One of George’s lifelong passions has been golf. He began playing at a young age and has enjoyed the game for most of his life. Some of his favorite memories include taking family trips to the golf course and teaching his daughter to play.
George was married to the love of his life for 48 wonderful years. Together, they shared a passion for sailing after meeting at an Irish bar in Long Island. As members of a sailing club, they spent many years sailing the waters around Long Island. They also loved taking Christmas cruises and creating unforgettable memories together. Today, George enjoys reading, spending time on his iPad, going on outings, and shopping with friends at Woodland Ridge.
