The Woodland Ridge Employee of the month for July is Martha Mesa! Martha is from Demorest, Georgia, and is the youngest of five girls. She played trumpet in the band in school and was very involved in their church. At age 17 she went to North Georgia Tech and has a diploma in business.
After she got married, she had a son, Kevin and a daughter, Katherine. Later she moved to Colorado to be near one of her sisters. She lived in South Carolina for a short time but eventually returned to Georgia, where she met and married her second husband, Ralph and became a step-mom to Mindy, Randy, and Christina.
They have several grandchildren that Martha says she wishes lived closer so they could see them more often. Martha’s husband now works in engineering for Marriott but used to work as a district manager and “opener” for Jim Wallace gas stations, meaning he opened new stations. That job was a family favorite because they received tickets to events, ball games, and even won a trip to Cancun, Mexico.
When she returned to Georgia, Martha worked at Cobb Hospital as a Cardiac Cath Tech and has been a CNA for over 30 years! This led her to go back to school as an adult, going to college at Chattahoochee Tech and then West Central Tech in Bremen and studying biology. She is proud of her 3.8-grade point average!
In her spare time, Martha loves jewelry, especially fire opals and loves to design and give her creations to family and friends. She also loves to read, swim, going to festivals, and hiking.
Martha came to Woodland Ridge as our part-time receptionist in April of 2016 and is always willing to help out as a caregiver or wherever she’s needed. Residents and staff alike love Martha’s cheerful attitude and a warm smile that lights up the front lobby.
