Resident Spotlight – October 2025

Our Resident Spotlight shines on Beryl Pleasants for the month of October. Ms. Beryl is originally from Innaha, Oregon, and grew up on a ranch near the corner where Idaho, Washington, and Oregon meet. She went to Eastern Oregon College and received her Bachelor of Education degree and became an elementary school teacher. When Ms. Beryl got married, they moved to Los Angeles, California. Ms. Beryl was a substitute teacher in Watts, a centerpiece for the riots of 1965. Over time, Ms. Beryl settled into a regular elementary school teaching role in the outskirts of LA for 5 – 6 years.

In the early 1970s, Ms. Beryl joined her husband in business at the Burbank Airport, running a repair and tie-down operation for small private planes. She didn’t get her pilot’s license, but did a solo flight in a Cessna, all the while raising two children, her son, Todd, and daughter, Cyndi. When she married Joe Pleasants, they moved to Atlanta, Georgia, and she became the stepmother to his 2 children. Joe and Beryl were married for 35 wonderful years, running McDonald’s franchises in New Mexico and Georgia, traveling the world, and supporting the Navigators ministry before he passed away. They also have 4 grandchildren.

Among Ms. Beryl’s favorite hobbies are skiing (they had a vacation home in Vail, Colorado), sewing, reading, and Bible study, which she also taught. While growing up, Ms. Beryl was active in 4-H as well. She has had other careers, with a highlight being when she became certified as an Image Consultant at age 65 and received training from internationally known Color expert, Carla Mathis. Ms. Beryl also worked for Chase Manhattan Bank as a regional sales representative for their Travelers Check division.

Here at Woodland Ridge, Ms. Beryl enjoys the outings to lunch or shop, the music activities, the exercise classes, and is the newest reader in our group, who reads to Nickajack Elementary students.

We’re so happy she decided to call Woodland Ridge her new home.
