EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT 11-21
In our employee spotlight for November is Latanya Ellington. Originally from Jamaica, Latanya grew up in a large family with 6 brothers and 7 sisters. She remembers playing outside all the time and she and her siblings making their own toys from anything they found. After high school, Latanya did pre-college classes. She eventually owned her own business, a bar and restaurant that her family now runs.
Latanya says she always loved to take care of the elderly starting as a volunteer. She became a CNA in 2010 and came to the United States in 2014. Once here, she did private duty care and got her license in 2016 and became a lead med tech in 2017. Now she’s studying to become a nurse. Besides working at Woodland Ridge, Latanya works for Wellstar Kennestone as a “tele sitter.” That means she watches patients from a monitor and calls for help if they need it. When talking about Woodland Ridge, Latanya says, “It’s a good environment, it’s peaceful. The staff is passionate about the care and I like my residents. I love the teamwork here.”
Latanya loves to travel and go on mini vacations. Her favorite place to go is home to Jamaica. Latanya’s daughter is 25 and is in forensic science, while her 21 year old son is in the Navy. Latanya has been married for 5 years to her husband, Demorie Ellington. Her other passion is cooking and our staff will tell you she’s wonderful at it! Latanya says she loves to grow, to learn and to experiment. While Latanya has worked with us for only 6 months, she has quickly become a favorite for both residents and staff. She has a wonderful caring attitude and a love for her work.
