Our Woodland Ridge Employee of the Month for June is Nkem Stokes! Nkem is originally from Nigeria and grew up in a large family with nine children. Her mother was a teacher, and her father was a manager for a British company.
She and her twin brother are the youngest of the bunch. Nkem says being a twin is a special thing; that they always have that connection, and that people ask about them and treat them special.
Nkem earned a master’s degree in Nigeria in international diplomacy and worked planning events, including weddings, before moving to the United States in 2015. She lived in Maryland near one of her siblings and worked as a CNA before moving to Atlanta to be near her cousin. Since coming to Atlanta, Nkem has been going to school at Chattahoochee Tech for nursing. The medical field runs in her family, her twin is a medical doctor, and one of her sisters is a pharmacist. Nkem has five children, ages 8, 13, 15, 18 and a 21-year-old who is currently in college.
Nkem is proud of where she is today; that she can be the mother of five and attend school. In her free time, Nkem loves to read and enjoys documentaries, CNN, and politics. When talking about Woodland Ridge, Nkem says, “I like the atmosphere here. There’s teamwork, and I like our residents. My boss, Kendra, is very friendly and creates an environment where I can be myself”. We love having Nkem as part of our team!
She always has an upbeat attitude, works hard, and is a favorite for many of our residents. Congratulations Nkem, we are proud of your hard work and happy to have you as a part of our family!
